Research Faculty - John Hart, Jr., M.D.

John Hart, Jr., M.D.

John Hart, Jr., M.D. is an Associate Professor of Geriatrics, Neurology, and Radiology at the UAMS College of Medicine and a Physician Researcher at the Geriatrics Research Education and Clinical Center of the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS). He also serves as President-Elect of the Behavioral Neurology Section of the American Academy of Neurology.
Dr. Hart’s research involves semantic memory and word finding. He is establishing a cognition research laboratory at the Reynolds Center on Aging at UAMS and the CAVHS, where he and other researchers will use memory testing, brain strucutral parameters, and measurement of the brain’s electrical activity to develop diagnostic tools to identify people with memory disorders. Such a facility may benefit not only Alzheimer’s patients, but will also help stroke and head injury patients, as well as those with schizophrenia and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Dr. Hart has an international reputation as a research and clinical expert in semantic memory and has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals. He has contributed to a dozen textbooks and has presented his research findings at meetings throughout the world. Dr. Hart has obtained research funding from the National Institutes of Health, private institutions, and major pharmaceutical companies.
