Arkansas Aging Initiative: Education Program

coa-road.jpg (33520 bytes)Regionalized education programs are developed from community needs assessments, and target health care providers and the general public.

Community Needs Assessments

Community needs assessments consist of surveys and focus groups. A survey is administered to older adults to identify perceived health care needs. Focus groups are conducted to obtain information about health care needs of the elderly from a cross-section of health care professionals, informal caregivers and older adults.

Programming

Programs in geriatrics for healthcare providers include:

  • Continuing education opportunities for healthcare professionals in the area
  • Educational opportunities for students in healthcare disciplines, including medical students, physicians in training, geriatric nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, and social workers
  • Web-based education
  • Telemedicine program (in the future)

Programs in geriatrics for the general public include innovative educational experiences for older adults and their families and web-based education.
