Aging Initiative: Overview
Seven Centers on Aging are being
established in Arkansas in each AHEC region to improve the
quality of life for older adults and their families. These
Centers are being developed by the Donald W. Reynolds Center
on Aging in partnership with the Area Health Education Centers
(AHEC), local communities and local and regional hospitals,
and will provide programming for the entire region.
Centers already in place include:
- Schmieding Center for Senior Health and Education, in
Northwest Arkansas (Springdale)
- South Arkansas Center on Aging, located El Dorado
Three Centers in the development process include the Texarkana
Regional Center on Aging in Southwest Arkansas, in Northeast
Arkansas (Jonesboro), and Arkansas Delta (Helena). It is anticipated
that these will be fully functional by July 2002. Future Centers
to be established include Southeast Arkansas (Pine Bluff)
and West Arkansas (Fort Smith).
