Art in the
Institute on Aging
Our shared vision for the project is to create an atmosphere
of tranquillity, relaxation and therapy for the patients,
faculty and staff of the Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging.
The use of Arkansas landscapes and imagery created by our
own Arkansas artists will enhance and contribute to our wonderful
new facility. It is our dream to have the art within this
building to be an inspiration to all who enter here. Lastly,
our endeavor is to foster an environment of total wellness
for mind, body and soul.
Each month, works of art from the Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging
will be featured on this site. Return here regularly to find
out more about the artists and their work.
This month's featured artist: Aj Smith
Aj Smith is one of the top print makers in the south and a Professor of Art at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
Aj’s work can be seen in solo and group exhibitions wherever printmaking’s cutting edge can be found. His monoprints, mixed media lithographs, and graphite drawings are collected by museums, corporate and private collectors throughout the United States. His recent experimentation with African American imagery has won him praise from curators and garnished design and purchase awards. Serious collectors of the artist’s work include the Schomburg Center for Black Research Museum in Harlem, the United States Library of Congress, The Arkansas Arts Center, and The Philadelphia Museum of Art.
