The Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System is affiliated with one medical school and numerous associated health programs at the forefront of healthcare and medical practice. The healthcare center consists of 291-bed general medical and beds, a 140-bed Extended CareUnit, a 119-bed Domiciliary, outpatient clinics, and research facilities. The medical center is comprised of two campuses - the John L. McClellan hospital in Little Rock focuses more on acute care, while the Towbin Healthcare Center in North Little Rock facility provides more long-term, chronic care for our patients. Outpatient clinics are now located at both facilities to meet the ever-expanding need in this area.
Through its affiliation with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, the center annually educates and trains more than 1,000 healthcare professionals in numerous disciplines.
The Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System is one of the busiest facilities in terms of workload. The facility is reaching out to veterans through Community-Based Outpatient Clinics in Mountain Home, El Dorado, and Hot Springs, as well as a Drop-In Treatment Center for homeless veterans in downtown Little rock, and mobile health screening clinics that bring wellness checkups to small towns in Arkansas.
